My Artistic Statement

“The thing I have always tried to do is surprise people: to present them with something they
didn't expect.” - Sir Christopher lee
I am an artist whose goal is to explore the depths of the mind and how the human
condition can make us feel in film and theater. I am a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy pieces, and a lot of my pieces I work on are grounded in real science, but I’m more of a fan of big spectacles. Patriotism and Nationalism are two of the core beliefs that I hold dear to my heart. One should love their country and be proud of where they were born and be allowed to exercise their ideas for change in whatever way they can. From a young age, I was always fascinated with how our country’s history bleeds into art and look to encourage its spread. I've always wanted to explore that in the way I perform. By making pieces that show the different ways of life we have in each area of our great country, I work to further inspire younger generations living in these areas. My work is not only geared to inspire people from the younger generations but also allows the older and aging generations to go out and see the arts. Movies, plays, whatever they can to make their life more colorful than what they first walked into that movie theater or that proscenium. I work for the ideal spirit of a nation whose forefathers saw the arts to celebrate this nations freedom just as much as any sport or Spectacle can. Which is what the arts need in this country, spectacles that bring out what we feel the most inclined to speak about and to start conversations about what we love most, and to escape from the hardships of this life. That’s why I aim to make Spectacles a priority for my work.  The plays and films I’ve worked on always aspire to the ideas of the screenwriter or playwriter. My work on She Kills Monsters really made the viewer feel that epicness of the game of Dungeons and Dragons while showing us why we try and escape reality. My Character Orcus wanted to escape to the game to make himself feel stronger. It speaks to me, so I know it speaks to the audience. My other work such as Dearly Departed, show a life in which we try to make things as good as possible and by relying on spectacles put on by even people in our lives helps us escape and that what my character Bud represented a man trying to escape his measly life and live better.
Spectacles in art help us make our escape from this reality, a lot like the video
games that people play to escape. Escape is necessary to make yourself feel more comfortable in the real world; this is reflected in the pieces I’ve been in with Dearly Departed, where family looks to get away from their troubles by escaping away from the death of their father. My life has always pointed me towards doing the best art that I can, and I would like to continue that throughout my life.
